The Jersey Basketball League (JBL) is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for athletic competitions.  Accordingly, all Coaches must behave in a respectful, courteous, and sportsmanlike manner at all times.

Coaches are responsible for their Spectators, Assistant Coaches, Players, Timekeepers, & Scorers

Assistant coaches, timekeepers and scorers are not to address the officials, opponents, or spectators.

 

Coaches in the JBL shall:

  • Not criticize opposing teams, players, coaches, officials, & fans by word/gesture before, during, or after a game.
  • Accept decisions of the official’s w/o argument as fair & called to the best of the abilities of the officials.
  • Be responsible for conduct, control, and removal of any unruly fan(s) in violation of the spectator’s code of conduct, at the request of the game officials. If this occurs, the coach has 3 options:

a)    Remove the violator from the gym.

b)    Call the police to remove the violator

c)    Forfeit the game if they will not do either a or b

  • Not using abusive or profane language at any time.
  • Not permit participation of any player or attendance from spectator, who is ineligible for any reason.
  • Remove any player from games when in doubt about his/her health, whether or not as a result of injury, until competent medical advice is available.
  • Not deliberately incite unsportsmanlike conduct. This includes interacting with spectators.
  • Not using alcohol, illegal substances, or tobacco products at game sites.

  • Each Coach/Player Technical Foul will count 1 point to the Team Conduct Violation total.
  • Any Coach, Player, or Spectator who engages in a negative manner after the game to their opponents, spectators, or officials will result in a 2-game suspension + 2 COC points
  • Any conduct detrimental to the league will result in a 2-game suspension + 2 COC points

 

Any Coach/Player/Spectator Ejections will result in the following penalties*:

1st Offense – If any individual player, coach, timekeeper, scorer, or spectator is ejected from a game, that person will not be allowed to attend or participate in the next 2 games.

2nd Offense – That person(s) will be suspended for the next 5 games.

3rd Offense – Results in that person(s) suspension from the League indefinitely.

 

*Coach Ejections do not reset the following year, they are cumulative

Each Coach/Player/Spectator Ejection will count 2 pts to the Team total

 

ANY TEAM WHO HAS ACCRUED A TOTAL OF 5 CODE OF CONDUCT POINTS ARE INELIGIBLE FOR THE PLAYOFFS. IF THEY ACCRUE 10 POINTS, THE TEAM WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE LEAGUE

The JBL Director will receive reports regarding an incident, review with the league’s Discipline Committee, & then issue suspensions as outlined in the Code of Conduct.

The Town Director is responsible for notifying the individual about their suspension.

The JBL can suspend anyone who exhibits conduct detrimental to the league

The JBL reserves the right to suspend any individuals from the program or its events in order to ensure the safety of its members and uphold its mission.

 

Appeals will only be considered when there is sufficient & compelling evidence that the suspension is unwarranted. Appeals related to an in-game judgment call by a referee will not be considered.
