JBL COVID-19 DISCLAIMER

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unexpected and profound impact on all of our daily lives. COVID-19 has hanged a lot about the way we need do business and the ways in which we interact with each other.

While much uncertainty and apprehension around COVID-19 remains, we do know that COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. It may also spread by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes. Some evidence suggests that COVID-19 can live on certain surfaces for several days.

There is a risk that you could contract COVID-19 while participating in one of our programs.

At the Jersey Basketball League (JBL), we have implemented various preventive measures aimed to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19 among our players, coaches, officials, and spectators. However, we do not guarantee or warrant against the risk of infection.

None of the information provided herein is intended as medical advice. This Notice and Disclaimer is intended as a warning to our participants of the risk of contracting COVID-19, a disclaimer of our liability and the liability of volunteers associated therewith, and an explanation of some of the things we’re doing to mitigate the risk of the spread of COVID-19, as well as some of the things we believe our participants can do to help.

You should quarantine and stay at home away from others if you were in close contact (within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more over 24-hours) with someone who had COVID-19, or if you participated in a high risk activity such as attending large gatherings with people who may be unvaccinated.

  • If you are unvaccinated, you should quarantine for 14 days*, monitor for symptoms, and get tested 5-7 days after you were exposed. You should get a COVID-19 vaccine, if eligible.
  • If you are fully vaccinated, you should get tested 5-7 days after contact (or if symptoms develop), wear a mask indoors for 14 days (or until a negative test). Get a booster shot, if eligible.

*14 day vs. 7 or 10 Day Quarantine

The safest option is to stay home for 14 days. If you cannot stay home for 14 days due to economic or other hardship, there are two options:

  • No Test Option: Stay home for 10 days. If you stay symptom free for 10 days, quarantine ends. Monitor symptoms, wear a mask, and social distance through day 14.
  • Test Option: Stay home for 7 days. Get tested on Day 5, 6, or 7. Stay home while awaiting results. If the test is negative and you stay symptom free, quarantine ends. Monitor symptoms, wear a mask, and social distance through day 14.

Everyone in quarantine should wear a mask, social distance from others, wash hands often, and cooperate with contact tracers if you receive a call.

Lastly, when, the JBL will closely monitor any changes to schools’ scheduling in response to COVID-19 and mirror their response. If schools close due to a concern about the safety of our children, our games will be cancelled immediately for that same reason.
