JBL COVID-19 DISCLAIMER
On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unexpected and profound impact on all of our daily lives. COVID-19 has hanged a lot about the way we need do business and the ways in which we interact with each other.
While much uncertainty and apprehension around COVID-19 remains, we do know that COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. It may also spread by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes. Some evidence suggests that COVID-19 can live on certain surfaces for several days.
There is a risk that you could contract COVID-19 while participating in one of our programs.
At the Jersey Basketball League (JBL), we have implemented various preventive measures aimed to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19 among our players, coaches, officials, and spectators. However, we do not guarantee or warrant against the risk of infection.
None of the information provided herein is intended as medical advice. This Notice and Disclaimer is intended as a warning to our participants of the risk of contracting COVID-19, a disclaimer of our liability and the liability of volunteers associated therewith, and an explanation of some of the things we’re doing to mitigate the risk of the spread of COVID-19, as well as some of the things we believe our participants can do to help.
Each team must appoint a safety manager to ensure that our players and coaches are at proper temperature, using hygienic practices, and maintaining proper social distancing. If spectators are allowed to enter a facility, they must adorn masks (covering both nose & mouth) and if required, have their temperature checked as well. All coaches and bench personnel must wear masks. We also must ensure that we do not exceed the legal number of attendees at any JBL event. If we reach maximum capacity, people may be turned away.
As much as we can control in the Jersey Basketball League, we are not able to ensure that all participants in the league are adhering to safety provisions as strictly as we will. If your child is exposed to an individual who, through contact tracing, was positive for COVID-19, we will be mandating a 14-day quarantine from JBL activities. The JBL will be adhering to the “risk level” chart rules issued by the New Jersey Department of Health. Waivers may also include a provision about holding the JBL harmless in the case of a COVID-19 exposure related JBL activities. We will require our town/organization Directors to coordinate with their coaches to appoint one safety director per team who will oversee their team’s compliance with the JBL, NJSIAA, and NJ Dept of Health regulations. Most of these provisions are self-governed, and we would rely heavily on parents and children to be open and honest about potential signs and symptoms of illness.
Lastly, when, the JBL will closely monitor any changes to schools’ scheduling in response to COVID-19 and mirror their response. If schools close due to a concern about the safety of our children, our games will be cancelled immediately for that same reason.
HERE IT ALL BEGINS!
